Philip says: "Director Jamie Babbit’s,
ITTY BITTY TITTY COMMITTEE is the cure for any one wondering where all
the great new lesbian indy films are. You may recall Babbit's spoof of
the ex-gay movement, BUT I'M A CHEERLEADER (1999). It's one of my guilty
pleasures, not so much because it's a fantastic film, but because its
heart is in the right place and seeing RuPaul play one of the camp counselors
out of drag is worth the rental. Babbit has since grown up cinematically
and struck gold with her new feature, ITTY BITTY TITTY COMMITTEE. Gone
is any awkwardness you may have felt watching BUT I'M A CHEERLEADER. ITTY
BITTY is smart, tight, sexy, funny (the laugh out loud kind) as well as
being a primer on feminism. Melonie Diaz (RAISING
VICTOR VARGAS) and Nicole Vicius (LAST
DAYS) play the perfect push-pull romantic leads, Anna and Sadie. Anyone
familiar with the television show Popular will freak out over Carly Pope
as Shuli as well as Leslie Grossman in a minor yet hysterical role as
Maude. Babbit directed a few of the show’s episodes so it makes
sense she’d pull talent from the familiar. Pope is amazing as the
brains behind C(I)A, the feminist direct action group the plot of the
movie centers around. Deak Evgenikos as Meat, the artist of the bunch
has a great Eve Arden-esque presence and Daniela Sea ('The L Word') provides
the usual swoon material often for both sexes. The story is simple romantic
comedy. The soundtrack is insanely good. The performances, directing and
editing keep you in the moment, laughing and cheering for the girls’
happy ending. ITTY BITTY TITTY COMMITTEE is this season’s perfect
date movie. 5 cats" |
