Winner! Dead Man Walking 1995 belonged to Dead Man Walking. Surprisingly, this powerful film just barely squeezed past Babe to win this award.

Best Actress

Winner! Susan Sarandon for the role of Sister Helen Prejean in Dead Man Walking Susan Sarandon continues the Dead Man Walking winning trend. Her moving portrayal of Sister Helen Prejean placed her far ahead of second placer Emma Thompson.

also nominated: Kathy Bates for the role of Dolores Claiborne in Dolores Claiborne, Nicole Kidman for the role of Suzanne Stone Maretto in To Die For, Julianne Moore for the role of Carol White in Safe, Elisabeth Shue for the role of Sera in Leaving Las Vegas, Emma Thompson for the role of Elinor Dashwood in Sense and Sensibility

 

Best Actor

Winner! Sean Penn for the role of Matthew Poncelet in Dead Man Walking Sean Penn's riveting portrait of a man facing execution for his crimes won him the best actor award in 1995. His closest competition came from Nicholas Cage's alcoholic writer, Ben.

Best Supporting Actress

Winner!Mira Sorvino for the role of Linda Ash in Mighty Aphrodite - I was slightly disappointed to see the Chlotrudis Awards follow the Academy Awards so closely in the supporting categories this year. Mira Sorvino took this award by a landslide. Jennifer Jason Leigh was the runner-up.

also nominated: Ileana Douglas for the role of Janice Maretto in To Die For, Jennifer Jason Leigh for the role of Selena St. George in Dolores Claiborne, Fiona Shaw for the role of Mrs. Croft in Persuasion, Elizabeth Spriggs for the role of Mrs. Jennings in Sense and Sensibility

 

Best Supporting Actor

Winner!Kevin Spacey for the role of Verbal Kint in The Usual Suspects This was a very close race with Kevin Spacey ultimately taking the award. Patrick Stewart took runner-up honors by one vote, and he in turn narrowly defeated Alan Rickman by one vote.   

also nominated: James Cromwell for the role of Farmer Hoggett in Babe, Don McKellar for the roles of Thomas in Exotica and Timothy in When Night is Falling, Joaquim Phoenix for the role of Jimmy Emmett in To Die For, Alan Rickman for the role of Hank in Sense and Sensibility, Patrick Stewart for the role of Sterling in Jeffrey
